Treatment day

Der Behandlungtag Lasik Zentrum Pforzheim Dr. Haug

This is the big day. In just a few hours, you will see the world with new eyes! Please avoid wearing make-up, perfume, aftershave and hairspray. Leave enough time: You will be in the refractive laser centre for about 2 hours. The procedure is always performed on an outpatient basis. Although the laser treatment itself takes only a few minutes, the necessary technical preparations, programming of the laser and sterilisation of the instruments do take time.

Irrespective of which method is performed, the entire treatment is completely pain-free. At the LASIK Zentrum Pforzheim, you are in competent hands, the whole team is there for you and will accompany you from the first minute to the last. We will explain each individual step to you during the treatment itself.

We start the day with the measurements needed for treatment. Since you will probably be a little nervous, if you want, we will give you a mild sedative. Then, your eyes will be anaesthetised locally with eye drops.
Before we take you into the preparation and treatment rooms, you will be given overshoes and an OP cap, since hygiene has top priority during the operation.

Then we will go into the operating room. You will be brought into the correct position on the couch. You individual operation data has already been entered into the laser. Before each laser treatment, the team will carry out several technical tests, using a checklist, to ensure that the machines work perfectly.

Firstly, Dr Haug will clean your eyelid, stick it down with a sterile tape and affix a lid holder to prevent you from blinking during the operation. Depending on the treatment chosen and before using the laser, Dr Haug will prepare your cornea using the femtosecond laser. Then your visual defect will be corrected with the Excimer laser. You will hear the laser pulses and will see coloured bolts of light. The laser always hits its target exactly, since the whole treatment is monitored by the computer. If, for example, you unintentionally move your eyes, a so-called eyetracking system guarantees that the laser beam still hits the zone to be treated exactly or that the laser is briefly interrupted until your eye is back in the correct position. After completion of the laser treatment, the prepared corneal flap will be returned to its original position, thus acting as a natural bandage.

At the end of treatment, we give you a short rest and the first post-procedural check is made after about 30 minutes. Dr Haug will explain how to use the medication and give you important behavioural information.

Hi-tech is very important for the success of the treatment.

We hold regular, non-binding information evenings on the topic of refractive laser treatment.
