Preliminary examination

Voruntersuchung Lasik Zentrum Pforzheim Dr. Haug

During the preliminary examination, you will be examined and advised by Dr Haug personally. The result of this examination will show whether you are eligible for refractive laser treatment and which method is right for you.

Please note:

  • The examination is very comprehensive; please plan on about 2 hours.
  • Your pupils will be dilated with eye drops for this examination. For that reason, you will not be able to drive a car for several hours.

The individual examinations

  • Vision and refraction: objective and subjective determination of the refractive power of your eyes (diopter level)
  • Pachymetry: Measurement of your corneal thickness using an ultrasonic examination and light
  • Topography: Survey of your eye surface and recording of individually variable heights and curvature values. This allows determination of possible corneal illnesses or scars on your cornea.
  • Tonometry: Measurement of the inner eye pressure to exclude glaucoma
  • Pupillometry: Determination of the maximum pupil diameter of your eyes at night. To avoid increased blinding sensitivity after your laser operation, the value determined may not be greater than the lasered area of the cornea.
  • Biometry: Laser survey of the length of your eyeball (IOL Master)
  • Retina diagnosis: Determination of possible degeneration of the retina as well as weakpoint, in particular on the edge of the retina. For this, your pupils will be dilated using eye drops.
  • Photography of finds

Removal of contact lens

  • Before the preliminary examination: at leasr 12 hours before the examination.
  • Before laser treatment:
    Hard contact lenses:
4 weeks before treatment. People who wear hard contact lenses may wear soft contact lenses instead up to 2 weeks prior to the treatment.
    Soft contact lenses:
2 weeks before treatment. Depending on the topography findings, longer interruptions in wearing may be necessary.

Hi-tech is very important for the success of the treatment.
